Annual Conference 2012 - a first in inter-firm inter-sponsor teamwork!

Along with a tight schedule of premier sponsor presentations, sponsor speed presenting, workshops and exercises we had singing policemen and aria singing delegates which added some unusual spice to the first day.

The Gala dinner had a gothic feel and was based in the hotels very own chapel, replete with giant chandeliers, AIT UK themed lighting, the only thing missing were Owls delivering messages and broomsticks!

This event is now seen as an important slot in the calendar for fantastic and unique networking opportunities for both IT professional from accountancy firms and industry suppliers.

The AIT UK group would like to thank everyone involved with the conference...here's to the next one!

Innodata - welcome to the group!

With knowledge spreading far and wide about how valuable membership to the AIT UK really is, we're experiencing more and more enquiries and requests for membership status. June Technical Meeting

Over 50 industry professionals from our accountancy member firms enjoyed presentations from Tikit, Capita IT Services, CCH, Glide and Recommind; each supplier updated the group on their latest products and achievements, as well as providing a glimpse into future developments.

In addition to the supplier presentations, we asked each of the attending accountancy firm members to complete an in depth survey of current software/suppliers being used for procedures such as email archiving, firewall and WAN provider. This is an update to the version which was last collated in 2008 and will be made available to each of the participating accountancy firm members at the AIT UK Annual Conference in September.

Confirmed presenters for the 28th June Technical Meeting

Tikit, Capita, Wolters Kluwer (CCH), Glide and Recommind have all been given a 45 minute slot at the last Technical Meeting for 2012.

There are currently over 50 people registered to attend the day which promises to be extremely informative, but also provide the networking/information sharing opportunities our AIT UK accountancy firm members greatly benefit from.

Technical Meeting - June 28th

If you are an AIT UK accountancy member and still have not registered your place, please contact Emma Jones at the earliest convenience.

There are still 2 unconfirmed presentation opportunities for IT suppliers to be involved with, if you are interested in presenting at the meeting please contact Emma Jones.

March Technical Meeting

Over 40 industry professionals from our accountancy member firms enjoyed presentations from Nikec (copitrak), Insight UK, RIM and Netfort Ltd; each supplier updated the group on their latest products and achievements, as well as providing a glimpse into future developments.

In addition to the supplier presentations, we welcomed Ruth Andrews from BDO who gave an overview of the logistics for the 2012 Olympics. It was extremely interesting and at times provided some shocking facts. Did you know the Olympic games are the equivalent to 26 simultaneous world championships? The Q&A session provided some useful transportation tips as well as an insight into the plans and ideas adopted by other firms. Jim Greenfield from PKF also gave an update and went on to present a session on service management which is a common topic on the group’s forum site.

Discussions are still taking place, however the conference is likely to run similar to last year with a variety of networking, discussion and presentions which all delegates will be involved in.

Annual Lunch 2011, a magical affair

Attendees witnessed Campbell Trainer (Apogee) having his head chopped off and reappearing with face paint to match the 'alternative' version. The entertainment didnt stop there...a jolly butler gave tours of the haunted cellar who was later accompanied by his vampire sister, and a whispering chair was able to tell your fortune. Comedian Adam Kay delivered his comical tailor made IT setlist, helped of course by his partner in crime...A Keyboard.
As well as the entertainment aspect, there was plenty of time to network with the Apogee representatives and catch up with fellow member firms. The latter opportunity was commented on for being one of the best bits about AIT UK meetings, a welcomed feedback comment for the organisers.

AIT conference an enormous success

The first AIT conference was held at the Seldson Park Hotel and Golf Club on 23/24 September, and was a fantastic success. Around 115 delegates from 27 large accountancy firms, and 18 suppliers and industry partners enjoyed two days of debate, education, networking and socialising.

A casino on the Thursday evening enabled those attending to win and lose ‘AIT Pounds’, while a closest the pin competition sponsored by Opentext was won by David Austin from Armstrong Watson.

Central to the event was discussion and debate, with both firms and their partners able to review the challenges that our industry faces. Mobility, Cloud computing, Consumerisation, and Social media proved to be the most popular topics.

Following the success of this event work will soon begin on the arrangements for a similar event next year.
